Mathematics
Pam astudio Mathemateg?
Mae’r cwrs Lefel A Mathemateg yn cynnig cyfle i barhau ag astudiaeth o’r pwnc am ei ddibenion ei hun neu i fod yn gefn i astudio pynciau eraill. Bydd Mecaneg o werth i’r myfyrwyr hynny sy’n bwriadu astudio pynciau Ffiseg, DT neu sy’n meddwl am yrfa o fewn Peirianneg. I’r rhai sy’n bwriadu astudio pynciau megis Daearyddiaeth, Bioleg neu Gemeg bydd cwrs Ystadegau o ddefnydd iddynt. Mae modd astudio cyfuniad o’r tair elfen o Fathemateg sef Pur, Mecaneg neu Ystadegau.
Beth yw cynnwys y cwrs?
Mathemateg Bur
Mae mathemateg bur yn cynnwys astudiaeth o algebra, geometreg, trigonometreg a chalcwlws, ble mae llawer o’r syniadau yn estyniad o TGAU.
Mecaneg
Mae mecaneg yn ymwneud â datrys problemau mewn dynameg a stateg.
Ystadegaeth
Ystadegaeth yw’r astudiaeth o gasglu, cyflwyno ac arddangos data, gan gynnwys ndatblygiad a chymhwysiad o theorïau tebygolrwydd a modelu.
Mathemateg Dwbl
I rhai disgyblion sy’n ystyried astudio Mathemateg yn y Brifysgol gobeithio y gellid dilyn cwrs a fydd yn arwain at Lefel A ychwanegol ym Mathemateg trwy astudio 5 uned arall sef cyfuniad o waith Pur, Mecaneg ac Ystadegaeth.
Strwythur y cwrs a’r dulliau asesu
Disgwylir i’r sawl sy’n ystyried astudio Mathemateg i safon uwch fod wedi dilyn cwrs TGAU ac ennill gradd B ac yn uwch. Mae’r Unedau wedi nodi isod. Bydd cyfle gan ymgeiswyr i ailsefyll unedau unwaith yn unig gyda’r canlyniad gwell yn cyfrannu at y cymhwyster.
Why study Mathematics?
The ‘A’ Level course in Mathematics offers the opportunity to continue the study of the subject for its own sake or as a support for other subjects. Mechanics will be of benefit to those students who intend studying subjects such as Physics and DT or who aspire to a career in engineering. For the students who intend studying subjects such as Geography, Biology, Chemistry, the Statistics element will be of benefit. It is possible to study all 3 components of Mathematics i.e. Pure, Mechanics, and Statistics.
What does the course contain?
Pure mathematics
Pure mathematics includes the study of algebra, geometry, trigonometry and calculus, where many of the ideas are an extension of the work studied at GCSE.
Mechanics
Mechanics is primarily concerned with solving problems in dynamics and statics.
Statistics
Statistics is the study of collecting, presenting and analysing data, together with the development and application of probability theory and models.
Double Mathematics
For some students who have a desire to study Mathematics at University, there is the opportunity to study 5 other Mathematic units i.e. a combination of Pure, Mechanics and Statistics to acquire an additional A level in Mathematics.
Course structure and method of assessment
It is expected that those students who wish to study Mathematics to Advanced level, will have achieved a grade B and above at GCSE. The Units of study are noted below. Candidates have the opportunity to re-sit units once only with the better result contributing to the qualification.
