Chemistry
 Pam astudio Cemeg?
Mae astudio Cemeg Safon Uwch yn adeiladu ar yr elfennau Cemegol a gyflwynir yn y cwrs Gwyddoniaeth TGAU. Gall y rhesymau dros astudio Cemeg fod fel a ganlyn:
• Er mwyn mynd ymlaen i astudio Cemeg mewn sefydliad Addysg Uwch.
• Er mwyn derbyn gwybodaeth gefndirol o Gemeg ar gyfer astudio maes gwyddonol arall.
• Os am astudio Ieithoedd, Dyniaethau neu’r Celfyddydau ac am ehangu astudiaethau drwy astudio pwnc gwyddonol.
Mae llwyddiant yn yr arholiad Safon Uwch yn hanfodol ar gyfer mynediad i’r Brifysgol i astudio Cemeg, Peirianneg Cemegol, Meddygaeth, Deintyddiaeth, Fferylliaeth, Gwyddorau Bioleg a Biocemeg. Mae cymhwyster mewn Cemeg yn hynod o fanteisiol wrth astudio neu os am ddilyn gyrfa yn y meysydd canlynol: Gwyddoniaeth Amgylcheddol, Gwyddoniaeth Bwyd, Amaethyddiaeth, Daeareg neu Gwyddoniaeth Deunyddiau.
Beth yw cynnwys y cwrs?
Mae Cemeg yn bwnc eithriadol o gyffrous sy’n gallu arwain at lwyddiant ym myd gwaith ac addysg uwch. Mae’r cwrs yn cynnwys gwaith theori a gwaith ymarferol ynghyd â chyfleon i fynychu gweithdai estynedig er mwyn ehangu dealltwriaeth a phrofiadau ymarferol, Gellir gweld strwythur penodol y modiwlau yn y tabl isod. Er mwyn llwyddo mewn Cemeg Safon Uwch, mae’n rhaid bod myfyrwyr wedi ennill Gradd B o leiaf yn yr arholiad TGAU Gwyddoniaeth. Mae Gradd B neu uwch yn yr arholiad TGAU Mathemateg hefyd yn fanteisiol iawn.
Why study Chemistry?
The study of Chemistry at Advanced Level builds upon the chemical knowledge introduced in the GCSE Science course. These are the reasons why students may wish to study Chemistry. In order to:
• Pursue a course of further study in Chemistry in Higher Education.
• Gain a Chemical background for study in other subject areas.
• Study Languages, the Humanities or Arts and wish to broaden their studies by taking a Science subject.
Success in Chemistry is essential for entry to University to study Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Biological Sciences and Biochemistry. A qualification in Chemistry AS would be highly desirable for further studies or careers in Environmental Science, Geology and Material Science.
What does the course contain?
Chemistry is an exciting subject and the skills central to it are very desirable in the workplace and within higher education. The A-level course includes theory and practical work as well the chance to attend extended workshops in order to expand their knowledge and practical experiences. A detailed course structure can be seen in the table below. In order to achieve success in Chemistry, students need to have achieved at least a Grade B in GCSE Science. A Grade B or better in GCSE Mathematics is also recommended.
