Pam astudio Bioleg?
Mae’r amrywiaeth eang o fywyd ar y Ddaear yn codi nifer o gwestiynau pwysig:
• Sut y datblygodd y fath amrywiaeth?
• Sut y cynhelir hyn?
• Beth fyddai’n digwydd i’r amrywiaeth hon o ganlyniad i
weithredoedd bodau dynol?
I ddechrau ateb y cwestiynau hyn, rhaid datblygu gwerthfawrogiad o’r holl sbectrwm biolegol o fiowyddoniaeth folecwlar i ecoleg poblogaeth. Mae Bioleg Safon Uwch yn cynnig y weledigaeth hon. Yn ddiweddar mae’n dealltwriaeth o systemau biolegol wedi datblygu yn gyflym iawn. Serch hyn, daw mwy o gwestiynau chwilfrydig am natur gymhleth a deinamig y byd naturiol gyda phob darganfyddiad newydd. Dysgir sut mae’r testunau yma’n perthyn i’w gilydd a’r egwyddorion cyffredin sy’n eu huno.
Beth yw cynnwys y cwrs?
Gall Bioleg ar y lefel hon fod yn gyffrous oherwydd ceir gyfle i astudio amrywiaeth o bynciau gan gynnwys Bioleg Celloedd, Biocemeg, Geneteg, Ystadegaeth, Microbioleg, Ffisioleg, Esblygiad ac Ecoleg. Mae’r cwrs yn rhoi sylfaen gadarn i unrhyw un sy’n dymuno dilyn gyrfa mewn Meddygaeth, Iechyd, Seicoleg, Gwyddoniaeth, Amaethyddiaeth, Gwaith Milfeddyg neu Astudiaethau Amgylcheddol. I ddilyn y cwrs, rhaid cael Graddau B o leiaf yn yr arholiadau TGAU Gwyddoniaeth. Yn ogystal â hyn, bydd disgwyl i’r ymgeisydd ddangos tystiolaeth o lwyddiant mewn ystod o bynciau TGAU eraill, yn arbennig Mathemateg.

Why Study Biology?
The great diversity of life on Earth gives rise to many important questions:
• How did such diversity arise?
• How is it maintained?
• What will happen as diversity decreases due to human
action?
To begin to answer these questions we need an appreciation of the full spectrum of biology, from molecular bioscience to population ecology. Advanced Level Biology provides this breadth of view. In recent years our understanding of biological systems has advanced at an unprecedented rate. Yet with each new finding come more intriguing questions about the complex and dynamic nature of the biological world. During the course, some of these issues will be addressed, and the way in which they are interrelated will be considered.
What is the course content?
Biology at this level can be exciting and challenging as there is an opportunity to study a range of topics including Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Genetics, Statistics, Microbiology, Physiology, Evolution and Ecology. The course provides a good foundation for anyone intending to pursue a career in Medicine, Health, Psychology, Science, Agriculture, Veterinary Science or Environmental Studies. In order to follow the course, students should have gained at least a Grade B in both Sciences at GCSE level. The students will also be expected to show evidence of success in a range of other GCSE subjects including Mathematics.
